When I was a kid, I had piano lessons for a number of years. Grandma had a piano, and after initially having a keyboard at home, we also had a small one for a while. Things were going relatively well, I had graduated from “All My Little Ducklings” and the “Flea Waltz”, until puberty hit and ruined everything.
Citing the piano not being cool enough, I convinced my parents to switch over to not just the guitar, but the e-guitar – cause we all know that’s the cooler one. And then I had three years of lessons, which taught me, first and foremost, that I am entirely incapable of playing the guitar. Granted, I might have not been the most studious of students, but I hold firm that my hand-eye-coordination simply does not match with the act of playing the guitar. I cannot play a single chord, I tell you.
Nonetheless, my fascination persisted (more for music in general than) for the guitar, and so I was blown away when sometime around 5 years ago, I came across this video of musician Yasmin Williams.
Yasmin is an American finger-style guitarist that does things with the instrument that are hard to fathom. Especially, if you have ever tried playing the guitar yourself, or spent some time with the game Guitar Hero.
Her music has something soothing and gently energizing, perfectly suited for the early morning hours. With her music in the background, it’s easy to imagine oneself somewhere in an open field or clearing of a forest, despite actually showering at home before heading out to work.
Give her 2018 album “Unwind” a listen and be carried away by the soothing magic she creates with her guitar.
And have a great weekend, peeps 🙂
