#54 – Róisín Murphy

‘Time is relative (to your frame of reference)’, a wise Swiss man once posed. E = mc 2 and all that jazz. You might relate when reflecting on how long you have been at Snowflake, and then cross-referencing that against the absurdly short time that LinkedIn lists in contrast. It feels a bit like the dog years thing, in a good way 🙂

Similarly: after what feels like forever, tonight shall mark the first attended concert of 2024 (the last was back in mid-December) for me and so, you guessed it, this leads us to today’s musical excursion!

When we think of the Grand Dames of Electropop, possibly the two most prominent figures with the name recognition that spring to mind are Robyn and Kylie Minogue, but building on her success with MOLOKO (“Sing It Back”) Róisín Murphy has definitely worked her way up into the Olympus.

For decades now, she has been pushing musical boundaries, and captivating audiences with her unique artistic vision and iconically unashamed persona.

The kicker album that really caught me, after having brushed up against her music only on and off, was 2020’s Róisín Machine, which fell into a bizarre late-summer-y fall that was centrally dominated by Covid’s effects washing over the world… you might recall. The fun and funky levity of these tracks managed to bring the mood of vibing in crowds of people to my little Amsterdam apartment. Thanks for that, Róisín!

Put up that standing desk, turn up your speakers, and enjoy some easy sidestepping on these last moments separating us from the well-deserved weekend!
