A24 is arguably one of the most exciting production companies in film, in the past years. They have been part of so many fantastic productions, looking through their filmography is quite dizzying. I’d wager that all of you have watched at least one of their feature films, e.g. Ex Machina, Room, Swiss Army Man, Moonlight, Ladybird, Midsommar, or, of course, Everything Everywhere All At Once. The list goes on and on..
If you are looking for a film to watch this weekend, they are a fantastic place to start your search!
Now, you might be thinking: “But Jason, this is the place for music suggestions – what gives?” Well, let me inform you that for the 40th anniversary of what is commonly referred to as the greatest concert film of all time, A24 are re-releasing Talking Head’s 1984 concert “Stop Making Sense”. Directed by Jonathan Demme – best known for directing “The Silence of the Lambs”, for which he won the Oscar for Best Director (next to four additional wins) – and performed by the Talking Heads, the film begins with just David Byrne (lead vocals & guitar) on stage performing “Psycho Killer” and progressively builds out the band and stage show with each progressing song.
It is a great watch and catching its current run of the 4K-restoration in cinemas is definitely something that I intend on doing, and can warmly recommend. If you are not (yet) a fan of the Talking Heads, I would encourage you to give the freshly remastered album a listen, and maybe let that change your mind 🙂 Either way, here’s the tunes for you to enjoy.
