#45 – Raavi & the Houseplants

Aaaaaand we’re back!

One thing that has definitely changed from my times as a German-market SDR is that people outside of the good ol’ Germany don’t really go by calendar weeks the way Germans do. So, this would be KW1 (Kalenderwoche = calendar week), and people do really use that in planning ahead or just establishing where they are at a given time.

Or is that something applicable beyond our boarders and I am just ignorant to it?

Either way, since we are already starting on a somewhat head-y topic here, and my week has been in significant parts been focused on getting another one of those Snowflake badges (“Collaboration, Marketplace & Cost Estimation Workshop”) the genre of math-rock seemed to fit right in.

Stemming from the prog-rock universe, math-rock leans heavily into complex guitar rhythms that tend to shift time signatures left and right. Check out “Frame by Frame” from pioneers, King Crimson (probably best known by younger generations for their “21st Century Schizoid Man” song sampled by Kanye for “POWER”).

Now, while the genre can be fun and cool and exciting, I’d be lying if I didn’t also admit that it can quickly become annoying 😀

So, to give a bit of a smoother set-up, I am sharing with you today a Brookly-based indie rock band that has some pretty clear, albeit more mellow math-rock-influences.

Check out Raavi & the Houseplants (who apparently dropped the second part and just go by Raavi now) and their album Don’t Hit Me Up. My favorite track from the album is “Run Through” – how about yours?

Merry Friday and a happy new Weekend!
